Scheme Summary
Masterplan Design
Single Masterplan Architect, Chetwoods, carefully considered each of the elements required in the bid and how best they could work together within the constraints, for the optimum scheme.
Neighbourhood Development Framework
The area evolved organically by individual landowners from Hull. Our framework aimed to give local people more than just an invitation to populate space but also an opportunity to input into their potential home or work space. This was to ensure true vibrancy. This input was to be applied to all varieties of size and scale of accommodation.
Retention of Historic Buildings
Our bid includes maximum retention possible for the historic and unique buildings particularly around Humber St.
Retention of the Fruit Market
As the original heart of the culture of this area, we believed the Fruit Market needed to be preserved and enhanced to retain the areas true character. Our approach ensured continuity of activity and ultimately offered fresh produce on the doorstep of new residents, restaurants, hotels and businesses.
Business/Social Hub
The centre of our proposed scheme featured a glass covered meeting space facilitating the fruit traders of a morning, cafes and restaurants spilling out through the day and evening and a central heart to accommodate exhibitions and social gathering. Designed for interaction, space around and overlooking the heart would comprise a mix of offices, studios and workshops, apartments and shops.
Variety of residential accommodation
This was about more than just apartments in a city centre, which would be an easy developer response. Our proposal included an extensive mix of size and type of accommodation to encourage a 'village in the city' vibrancy, only achieved by encouraging residents of all ages and tastes who are only attracted by a choice in where and how they live.
Underground Carpark
A brave and expensive strategy but one that we thought the area demanded to preserve its character.
Real Business Support
The area was built by entrepreneurs and our proposal introduced real support, to encourage local business entrepreneurs into the area and ensure they remain successful. Savings would be sought on bulk purchases, mentors recruited, convenient packages including lease, maintenance, IT, HR, Insurance etc.
Sustainable Capability
Quintain's extensive experience in large scale development boosted our bid with the wealth of experience in sustainability from design, through construction and beyond into the ongoing protection of the community.
Maximum Green, Open Space
More genuine green, open space, both private and public, than any other bid, with extensive gardens above the basement car park.
