The site of the former iconic Fanny Haddocks fish and chip shop in Bradford has been transformed in a joint venture between ispace and Henry Boot Plc. The site was acquired by ispace at the start of 2010 and has been regenerated to house a new 4,000sq ft Tesco Express store. Just over a year later and the store is soon to be opening its doors to the public.
With the help and support of the design team planning permission was granted in July of 2010 and work began almost immediately.
Following the closure of the fish shop the site had become derelict and run down and was attracting the wrong type of activity including vandalism and boisterous youths. Following planning approval the site was fully demolished and cleared away. This included a full excavation as the site had also been a petrol station in a former life.
Following months of hard work the site has been given a new lease of life and has been redeveloped to include a 4,000sq ft retail unit, car park and forecourt.
ispace is currently exploring other suitable sites for Tesco Express stores and the site search team would be interested to hear from anyone with a suitable plot. Potential sites will need to be located on a main street, with a good surrounding population, have space for a 4,000sq ft retail unit, a minimum of 15 car park spaces and have adequate servicing.
