Houghton Regis is regeneration at its best.
In a joint venture between Dransfield Properties and ispace, a redundant site will be brought back to life with a £12 million food store development, transforming the town of Houghton Regis.
The retail led scheme will provide a 51,122 sq ft Morrison store with 278 car parking spaces, which for a town like Houghton Regis which currently has no full range main food store will not only provide 290 new jobs, but will offer convenience for those who currently travel out of town for their weekly food shop.
Architects involved in the project have taken careful consideration of the locality of the site and designed a bespoke scheme to reflect the local character. The scheme has also been designed around two entrances, one from the car park and the other looking out towards the town centre in an effort to link existing shops and services to the scheme.
Sculptor Robert Erskine has also been commissioned to produce a piece of public art for the development, having already produced other noteworthy pieces such as 'Tunstall Shard' and 'Power Rhythm' in Peterborough. Both ispace and Dransfield Properties are very excited to have Robert on board, bringing a whole new element to retail.
For leisure, pleasure, sustenance or survival, shops are an essential element of a successful regeneration scheme.
