Going Green
The site based in Southgate, Hornsea is set to become the next location for one of eight very special Tesco eco-stores. Using the very latest in environmental technology the development will bring greater choice and convenience to the seaside town of Hornsea.
When we first saw the land we knew it was ripe for development and the perfect project for ispace, especially as in Hornsea shoppers tend to have to drive out of town to carry out their weekly shop.
ispace purchased the land and began to market its potential for retail development, with Tesco purchasing the site subject to planning in early 2009. planning was granted by East Riding of Yorkshire Council in July of 2009.
Plans for the site include a 32,000 sq ft superstore, 318 parking spaces, petrol filling station, creating a potential 270 new jobs for the area. The plans feature a Class A1 food store and petrol filling station, with environmentally friendly technology helping to heat and power the store along with rainwater recycling to provide water for plants and toilet flushing. Roof panels will help to ventilate and light the store naturally.
